Strive Health Signs Health Equity Pledge to Leverage Data in Addressing Disparities

Author : Strive Health

DENVER — Sept. 7, 2023Strive Health, the national leader in value-based kidney care, joined over 50 healthcare organizations in the Health Evolution Forum’s Health Equity Pledge to address health disparities.

The Health Evolution Forum launched the Pledge to meaningfully strengthen data foundations through the collection, stratification and review of race, ethnicity, language and sex data with the ultimate goal of being able to more effectively identify and diagnose root causes and instill accountability for eliminating disparities.

As a result, organizations will be able to analyze disparities, monitor performance after interventions and share outcomes.

To reduce disparities and accelerate health equity, organizations pledge to:

  1. Collect race, ethnicity, language and sex data for at least 50% of the organization’s patient, member or customer population.
  2. Stratify and regularly review these collected data by the top-priority quality or access metric for 90% of major business lines and/or departments/divisions of adequate size.
  3. Share data and insights on health equity efforts, including for select measures, and participate in the Health Equity Pledge Learning Series to exchange ideas and solutions.

Drawing on more than 15 years of experience serving underprivileged communities in New York City, Alice Wei, M.D., Officer of the Chief Medical Office at Strive, developed a strategic vision to elevate equitable care. The Pledge, along with Strive’s health equity initiative, will help embed within Strive’s clinical programs a strategy to monitor outcomes for disparities.

“Racial and ethnic minority groups suffer from disproportionately higher rates of high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and heart disease,” Dr. Wei said. “This, in turn, increases their risk of kidney disease and kidney failure. Black or African Americans are almost four times as likely to develop kidney failure compared to White Americans. Social drivers of health, including access to care, play a role. This Pledge is a significant opportunity to hold ourselves accountable for identifying and bridging any gaps in care for a more equitable care delivery system.”

Emily Simon, Clinical Research Associate within the Clinical Research Group at Strive, will help Dr. Wei bring a disciplined approach to continuously analyze performance and share best practices with the broader healthcare community.

“We are pleased that Strive has joined in the effort to leverage data to address inequities in healthcare,” said Richard Schwartz, CEO of Health Evolution. “We welcome additional industry leaders to join in.”

The multi-year Health Evolution Forum brings together CEOs and other C-suite executives and subject matter experts to tackle the biggest challenges facing the industry today. This C-level collaboration across all healthcare sectors drives impactful, near-term change while identifying long-term needs.
